Motor Equipment Operator I

 

 

The City of Orangeburg is seeking two qualified individuals for the position of Motor Equipment Operator I in Sanitation and Service Departments. The position is full-time and works under close supervision of the General Supervisor I, and performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance of:

 

  • storm drainage systems, streets, sidewalks, road shoulders, public facilities and parks;

  • collection of solid wastes and operation of a variety of motorized equipment and trucks
     

REQUIREMENTS:

 

 

  • Valid SC Driver’s License and valid CDL Certification required!

  • Working knowledge of various tools and heavy equipment operation including back-hoe, dump truck, pickup truck, utility truck, street sweeper, street roller, manlift, saws, pumps, compressors, sanders, generators, common hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, detection devices, mobile radios, and phones;

  • Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations;

  • Ability to have the coordination and be in the physical condition required to successfully complete the job;

  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor tasks for extended periods under varying weather conditions;

  • Ability to lift 40 – 50lbs comfortably.

  • Ability to understand and accurately follow written and verbal instructions;

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and with members of the general public.

    Service Department Duties:

  • Operates trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, materials, and supplies;

  • Operates trucks and construction or power equipment, such as back-hoe, dump truck, and street sweeper.

  • Operates jackhammers, mowers, and other small equipment and tools to maintain streets, parks, public facilities, sidewalks and road shoulders.

  • Works with and assists cleaning ditches, hoisting material, tools, equipment and related work with a backhoe, slope mower or other equipment.

  • Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment;

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Public Works Department Duties:

  • Drives a collection vehicle over a designated route;

  • Picks up solid waste containers, including recyclables or yard waste as assigned;

  • Conducts routine maintenance and upkeep of Waster Collection Vehicles.

  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • High School Graduate or GED Equivalent preferred;

  • Experience involving the use of medium and heavy equipment;

  • Experience involving use of various hand tools;

  • Or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.

    Other:
    Conditional offer of employment based upon satisfactory results from pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.

    Starting Hourly Pay: $12.00 - $15.00, plus full benefits package including medical, dental, vision, paid holidays, state retirement, life insurance, short and long term disability insurance, health club members, etc.
