DESCRIPTION:

 

The City of Orangeburg Information Technology Division is seeking an Information Technology Support Technician to provide first-level support for all City users, including software and hardware for our Financial, HR, Public Works, Public Safety, Airport, Golf Course and Parks & Recreation operations. The person in this position must have strong communication and interpersonal skills and be willing to provide first class end-user hardware and software support for all City users.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS:

 

The selected candidate will be responsible for performing desktop hardware and software maintenance and installations including VOIP telephony, Android/iOS devices, Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Office, Microsoft print services and point of sale terminals. This position will require the ability to make changes and additions to Microsoft Active Directory Users and Groups. This position will also support the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety personnel and requires technical knowledge of current network protocols, operating systems, and standards. Installation low-voltage wiring/cabling is also required. This position will provide support to the City web page development and maintenance. AS400 experience is a plus.

 

DUTIES:

 

  • Provide technical assistance by answering questions and resolving computer problems for employees in person, via telephone or electronically.
  • Responsible for the installation and use of computer hardware and software, including setup and configuration of networking equipment, desktop computers and peripherals.
  • Support of computers, public safety software, and body camera / in car video for Public Safety Department.
  • Maintain Patrol Car computer systems.
  • Manage cell phones – troubleshoot, and replace.
  • Run cables to new locations when needed for expansion of the network and repair existing cables.
  • End user support, including after hours on call support on a rotating schedule.
  • Provide support and maintenance for 911 CAD software, and consoles.
  • Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 50lbs on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to climb flights of stairs on a daily basis.
  • Maintain IT inventory.
  • Provide basic phone system and voicemail support as needed.
  • Document internal procedures in knowledge base.
  • Perform other duties, as necessary.

 

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

 

  • Working knowledge/experience with workstations, laptops, smartphones, and tablets.

  • General knowledge of LAN/WAN technologies and protocols.

  • Wired and Wireless Network troubleshooting skills…. Ping, tracert , ssh, telnet, tcp/ip, 802.11 a/c.

  • Basic understanding of Virtualization platforms, including VMware.

  • General understanding of audio/visual systems.

  • Excellent troubleshooting, problem solving & root cause analysis skills.

  • Issues that involves Password reset/Unlocking accounts, hardware and software troubleshooting, VPN connectivity etc.

  • Willingness and ability to perform hands on technical work such as network cabling, hardware installation, surveillance camera installation.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Minimum Associate’s Degree in Information Technology or related field with at least two (2) years of desktop support is preferred;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills (both written and verbal);
  • Microsoft Certified Professional, A+, and Network+ certification preferred.
  • Experience in the following required: Windows Server, Windows OS, Active Directory, Microsoft Office, and Exchange; HTML, PHP, SQL, and Access experience is highly desired. AS/400 experience is a plus.
  • Must be able to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize time effectively
  • Ability to absorb and retain information quickly with a high attention to detail.

  • Must be able to be participate in after hours on call rotation.

  • The work requires driving and possession of a valid SC Class D Driver’s License is required.

     

Position is full time with complete benefit package, with starting salary ranging from $30,000 to $43,376 a year depending on qualifications.

 

Conditional offer of employment based upon satisfactory results from pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
