Senior Recreation Leader

 

 

The City of Orangeburg is looking for a qualified individual to assist in the Parks and Recreation Department as a Senior Recreation Leader.

 

 

SUMMARY: Specialized recreation work in the provision of leisure programs, sports and other recreational activities for various age and ability individuals and groups. Work involves assisting in the overall organization and delivery of general recreational activities, leagues, special events, clinics and seasonal programs; may serve as lead worker.

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (which are not in any hierarchical order):

  • Planning, organizing, teaching and leading various age and ability individuals and groups in general and specialized recreational activities that my include arts and crafts, athletics and leagues, special events and seasonal programs.

  • Coaches, referees and officiates various team athletics and maintains good sportsmanship on the part of participants and spectators.

  • Acts as lead worker for subordinate personnel at an assigned facility.

  • Maintains records and prepares reports as directed; issues and collects playground equipment.

  • Enforces safety policies and procedures and may assist in the rendering of first aid in cases of minor injuries.

  • Assists in the performance of minor maintenance duties to keep facilities and grounds in a safe and clean condition for participants and spectators.

  • Performs related work as required.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the principals, practices and techniques of public recreational activities and programs.

  • Knowledge of major athletic rules and regulations, including officiating.

  • Knowledge of basic safety and first aid procedures.

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to supervise subordinates.

  • Ability to keep records and prepare reports.

  • Ability to organize and actively participate in various indoor and outdoor recreational activities.

  • Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public.

  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

  • Skills in various recreational activities.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work involves detailed concentration for long periods of time in a modified office environment and in an outdoor setting. There may be occasional need for light to moderate lifting (up to 25 pounds).

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

College level course work in recreation, education or physical education; six (6) months experience in supervising team and individual sports and other recreational activities desired.

 

Other Job Requirements
Valid South Carolina Driver’s License and satisfactory results from drug test and criminal background check upon conditional offer of employment.

This is a part-time position –with hours that may vary between 20 – 30 hours per week, depending on the week and the support level needed. The candidate would work various hours and times.

 

Pay: $10.00 per hour
