The City of Orangeburg is looking for a qualified individual to assist in the Parks and Recreation Department as a Recreation Leader.


 

SUMMARY:

Provides leadership to a recreation program, activity or service; directs and/or leads the activities of a program, activity or service; organizes and implements program elements and oversees participants, and performs related work as required.


 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (which are not in any hierarchical order):

  • To provide, organization, leading, and instructing individuals and groups in specified programs.

  • To prepare instructional objectives and lesson plans.

  • To supervise and implement safe practices as it relates to participants, programs, and facilities.

  • To maintain program areas by cleaning up after activities.

  • To positively and successfully perform within work team dynamics.

  • To issue, receive, maintain, and inventory recreation equipment and supplies.

  • To maintain attendance, and activity records and make required reports.

  • To enhance the program or activities via participant solicitation or feedback.

  • To make recommendations to the Recreation Coordinator regarding program enhancement and any concerns regarding operations.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Recreation Coordinator.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
 

Work involves detailed concentration for long periods of time in a modified office environment and in an outdoor setting. There may be occasional need for light to moderate lifting (up to 25 pounds).

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Must have a basic knowledge of sports or the desire to learn the sport.

  • Experience working with children is preferable

  • Possession of a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) and one year of recreation or related experience relevant to the area of assignment; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Valid State of SC issued driver’s license

 

Other Job Requirements
Satisfactory results from drug test and criminal background check upon conditional offer of employment.

This is a part-time position –with hours that may vary between 20 – 25 hours per week, Monday – Friday 5pm – 9:30pm with some weekends depending on the week and the support level needed.
