PUBLIC SAFETY POLICE OFFICER II (Certified)

 

   The City of Orangeburg is currently seeking qualified candidates for Certified Public Safety Officers . Must be currently certified as a South Carolina Class 1 Law Enforcement Officer. 
   
  Assigned duties include policing only.


Grade 9:

Minimum New Hire Pay: $50,396 (6-month probationary restrictions in effect)


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be minimum 21 years of age;

  • Possess a valid South Carolina Driver’s License;

  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED Certificate;

  • Must provide a recent Credit Report;

  • Must pass a criminal background and Driver’s License record check;

  • Must be able to successfully complete a medical examination and drug screening;

  • Must be able to successfully complete psychological and polygraph examinations;

  • Possess Good Moral Character;

  • Must be currently certified as a South Carolina Class 1 Law Enforcement Officer.
     

Job Tasks:

Performs duties of a Police Officer to include:

  • Patrolling assigned areas to prevent crime and detect violations of law;

  • Respond to complaints, reports of violations and requests for assistance;

  • Apprehend and arrest violators;

  • Enforce traffic laws and issues warnings or citations to violators;

  • Investigate traffic accidents, and direct traffic;

  • Performs crowd control and maintains order during emergencies;

  • Prepares written reports of all incidents and occurrences;

  • Testifies in court and other legal proceedings;

  • Keeps records and makes reports regarding activities;

  • Participates in criminal investigations and evidence collection;

  • Interviews victims and witnesses;

  • Prepare incident reports;

  • Attends training and continuing education sessions to maintain certifications;

  • Present public education and awareness programs regarding crime;

  • Perform various station duties and maintenance as required;

  • Assist with annual certification testing of equipment; and

  • Perform all other duties as required and assigned.

May be required to lift 35lbs or more. Specific vision abilities required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
