Motor Equipment Operator I

The City of Orangeburg is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Motor Equipment Operator I (Sanitation Worker) in the Public Works Department. The position is full-time and works under close supervision of the General Supervisor, and performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled work in the collection of solid wastes and operation of a variety of motorized equipment and trucks.
 

REQUIREMENTS:

• Valid SC Driver’s License and valid CDL Certification – required!

• Working knowledge of heavy equipment operating principles;

• Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations;

• Ability to have the coordination and be in the physical condition required to successfully complete the job;

• Ability to perform heavy manual labor tasks for extended periods under varying weather conditions;

• Ability to lift 25-50 pounds comfortably.

• Ability to understand and accurately follow written and verbal instructions;

• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and with members of the general public.

  DUTIES:

• Drives a collection vehicle over a designated route;

• Picks up solid waste containers, including recyclables or yard waste as assigned;

• Conducts routine maintenance and upkeep of Waster Collection Vehicles.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• High School Graduate or GED Equivalent preferred;

• Experience involving the use of medium and heavy equipment;

• Or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.

  Conditional offer of employment based upon satisfactory results from pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.

  Starting Hourly Pay: $12.00 - $15.00, plus full benefits package including medical, dental, vision, paid holidays, state retirement, life insurance, short and long term disability insurance, health club members, etc.
